“Inner peace begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or event to control your emotions ” – Pema Chodron
Do you agree with me that once you live in a harmony with your mind, nothing can control you or change your mood? I mean nothing. That’s why building an inner peace is one of the most important and most significant things you can do for yourself.
When I was younger, I thought that I can’t control how I feel. Fortunately, I started to learn and quickly explored that this is not true. We are in a charge of our emotional state and we have a choice to either live in anger or happy with peace inside.
Creating an inner peace may be a challenge at the beginning. It requires your complete focus and “common sense” type of thinking. But like everything, it will eventually become a habit and lifestyle you will adopt. Let’s take a look at four ways how to achieve inner peace and brighten up your life every day.
What is your perspective?
How do you look at things? Are you more of a positive or a negative person? The way you see things affects your peace in a tremendous way. If every little thing is a problem for you, it’s hard to feel not frustrated.
I am confident that logic can help you here. So if something happens, some unexpected circumstances surprise you or things don’t go the way you wanted, you can’t change it. And this is an important thing to remember. The only thing you can impact is your mind. So instead of seeing all the bad, come up with a possible solution. Look at the problem as a challenge, as a lesson not the end of the world.
Get rid of negativity
Negativity is a disease which some people seem to enjoy. Complains, bad attitude or gossips. If you are not careful, you can get quickly sucked up into it. Negative thoughts or conversations will move from your conscious to your subconscious mind and affect your life without you even knowing it. People often chose to be negative because it is an easy way to go.
But you already know that you want to experience better quality life and creating inner peace is a place to start. I don’t doubt that you can handle it on your own, but a little help doesn’t hurt anyone. Find inspirational materials, books, and audios and use it every day. It will keep you on track, educate you and protect you from slipping down. Of course, you may have a bad day from time to time, but with proper mind training, you’ll learn how to change it.
Ask compelling questions
I have learned this concept from one book, and I have to tell you, it has saved my life few times. Have you ever consider the power of good questions? Did you know you can change your emotional state in seconds and discover a solution you couldn’t find before? It will direct you and make you see things differently.
As an example, when you are angry or upset, ask yourself; “Does it really matter? Can I change it? Is it worth of messing up my inner peace? Is it going to matter tomorrow? What can I do to make it work how I want?” Those are few examples you can use and understand who is in charge. Don’t blame people. You only get upset or frustrated because you allow yourself to be that way. The empowering question will change it immediately.
Let go and be grateful for what is
Letting go of things may be one of the biggest challenges you experience. It will need your patience and commitment. To make it as easy as possible, always use your common sense and don’t let feelings take over you. Everything hard must past at some point, and you should realize this. Some things we can’t change, no matter how hard we try.
Go to some place which has a positive impact on you. Maybe a forest or a beach or a park. It should be a quiet environment which doesn’t distract you. Give time to yourself to think and try to find the positive in a particular situation. Be grateful for what you already have and take ten deep breathes. With the last exhalation, simply let go of what has dragged you down.
Creating a long-lasting peace and happy life is what each of us desire. With a little practice, you can have it in no time. You will be amazed how you handle problems, how calm you become and how much love you feel. So, don’t wait and let’s get started.
