As we are approaching the end of 2016 and 2017 is just right around the corner, it is usually the time for us to create or start thinking about the resolutions we want to have for next year. Some of our resolutions might include exercising, eating less, and focusing on doing better in jobs. While these resolutions are not wrong (and you are definitely welcome to add these examples in your plan for next year), we want to challenge you to do something different and also a little bit more exciting for 2017. Instead of challenging you to achieve some “usual” goals, we want you to be and also to do some stuff that are good for your self-improvement.
Here are the goals that we want you to accomplish, or at least challenge you to achieve for next year, are you ready?
A better me starts with
1. Invest more time and effort in loving yourself
When we talk about loving yourself, we are talking about the fundamental essence of your life. As it has been mentioned in countless articles that have been published on the website, without loving yourself, it will difficult to point your life in the right direction. What do I mean by that? You will not be able to focus on finding the goals that you want to achieve and that you would easily give up when challenges arise because you do not believe that you deserve a better life. Accept the flaws that you have and understand that as a human being; we are all a beautiful work in progress. Treat yourself with respect and dignity. You should know that it is alright to make mistakes or to fail, do not be too hard on yourself. Limit your exposure to toxic people. Take a break when you need to. Spend more time with the people that you love. Do the activities that you love. Spend more time alone when you need to without anyone else’s interference. Take a walk to appreciate the beauty around you. Spend more time off social media; do not be afraid of missing out on the latest trend. Instead of following the trends around you, be confident in your own style. It is not selfish to let go of the things and people that have been holding on you for too long, it is actually a very smart move that will save you from more heartbreak to come.
2. Comfort zone? I am expanding you
Ah, don’t we all just love to reside in a place where we feel super comfortable in? Unfortunately, as we all know too well, it is hard to grow while we are being too comfortable in the place or situation that we are in. I am sure that we all know how good it feels to have a secure situation to be in, to know that you always have something to hold on to. But we can never hold on for too long, can’t we? In life, we all have to grow and that means we need to move forward. However, to make the concept of “growing” or “moving forward” less scary than they should be, let us imagine that every step we can achieve gives room for our comfort zone to grow bigger.
For example: why not try to travel to new places on our own? Why not try to meet new people who are completely different than us? I get that it is scary but challenging yourself to do something you have never done before can help you to become a better version of yourself that you never know existed. Once you have conquered the fear of doing the things that scare you, you will realise that fear only exist in your mind and you can do anything you want to, despite the fact that it scares you.
3. Focus on doing what you want to do all this time
In 2017, let us challenge ourselves to finally take a leap of faith in chasing our dreams. Stop giving yourself excuses. Stop letting anyone else’s expectation make you feel afraid to chase your dreams. Stop letting other people make decisions for you. Some people will try to tell you it is impossible for you to achieve your dreams because they never have the courage to follow theirs, let them be, you just do not have to hear them at all. One more thing, please stop comparing yourself with anyone else. Just because some people have done it faster than you, does not mean that you will never be able to achieve your dreams. Instead of letting a lot of stuffs hold you back, you can always put more effort to do start doing it. Just start. Remember, one step forward is always better than being always stuck in the place you are in right now. Even if you fail, that means you have done something new. Enjoy the process. If you enjoy the process on the road to happiness and success, you are already halfway there.
4. Forgive those who have wronged you in the past
Let the people who have hurt you go. As I have mentioned above, we are all a work in progress. The truth is, some people may still take more time to progress and during that process, they hurt others. It is no use to hold grudges or anger. It is not easy, especially if they have hurt you too many times. However, you can never live a life full of peace unless you forgive them and move on. You are going to experience so much more in life, which is why you should always approach it with happiness and gratefulness. Be grateful for the people that have always been there since day 1. Be grateful for things that go right instead of those that went wrong. Be grateful for the fact that you are still breathing. Be grateful that you still have a chance to turn your life around. If you are struggling while chasing your dreams, that could actually mean that you are moving in the right direction, so do not give up. Our lives are perfect when we realise that we already have everything that we need within ourselves. As quoted, “life is not meant for us to wait for the storms to pass, it’s about learning how to dance in the rain.” So, enjoy life as it goes and instead of resisting the changes that will come, let us learn to embrace them with open arms.
2017, here I come
In conclusion, we just want to wish you all a good ending for 2016 and remember how far we have come this year. We have faced a lot of challenges and setbacks this year. We have also received a lot of incredible experiences. Life is not easy but if we learn to enjoy it no matter what circumstances we experience, we are living a good life. We wish you an amazing 2017 and hope it could be your best year yet!
