As 2017 is going underway, you’ve probably enjoyed new experiences. Some of us are doing something new such as going to a new school or moving somewhere new. Whatever your experience can be, they can be daunting, especially if you have been accustomed to stay or do one activity and this is your first time having to do something different. It is normal to be afraid and to even want to escape if you have to face your fear. But, even if it is normal to feel that you want to escape new experiences.The good news is that changes can bring so many positive experiences that we never know before. Do you want to be able to enjoy new experiences well? Here are some of the steps that you can take to accomplish that:
1. Take your time
Yes, you are definitely allowed to take your time to familiarize yourself with every situation you have to face. No one will blame you for taking a couple days or even weeks to adjust yourself with the situation you are in. It is very normal and very much acceptable. If you have just moved somewhere new, you do not need to know everyone very quick in your school or your workplace. Try to observe and see how things work and the habits of people before you dive in. It does mean that you should definitely go out there and make friends as much as you can but you do not need to force any types of friendship along the way or any kind of relationship that you want to get. Try to get to know people and go into events that you are invited to. You should get to know the place where you live and the culture of the place so you can feel comfortable there. Take some days to hang around the city or countryside (depends on where you live). You do need to be relaxed and know that you do not have to force yourself to do or be something that you are not. The more you feel familiar with the new experience, the more comfortable and the better it will be for you to start over.
2. Be open minded
Being open minded does not mean that you have to say yes to every single thing or to everyone, it just means that you can accept that other people have other views or other culture that you may have never heard before but it does exist and you have a choice to either accept it or not. When you begin a new experience, you should try to be more open minded to the experience, try to see the positive sides of them to where it could lead you (does not mean you neglect the negative sides but try to make it as less as possible). We all live with other people who grew up with different habits and values. We all at some point will encounter new cultures or new ways of doing things. While we may not always be comfortable to face them at first, the more we can accept other people or other culture, the more we relax and the more we will try to join new activities. While it may be difficult as well and it seems like we are overwhelmed to do a lot of things at first, if we have an open mind that what we are doing will have a good ending, it will make the transition easier for us.
3. Be prepared
Being prepared in this case does not mean that you have to know everything already about your new experiences. If you are going somewhere new, you could prepare yourself by browsing as much information about that place. You can ask people on what it is like to live there and what should you prepare. Prepare yourself on what you should expect and do as you are moving in. Get yourself equipped with the tools you need such as books for school or relevant knowledge on the place you are working in if you are either a student or a worker. Having preparation help you to be more relaxed and ready to start a new experience. When you are not prepared, you can end up being more scared because you do not know what you will have to face and how you have to face them.
4. Be grateful for the opportunities
Yes, not everyone has a chance like us to experience new things in life. A new opportunity comes in our lives for a greater purpose. While we may not understand what we are doing in the first place, it will make sense as we go along the way. You do not have to understand in the beginning, no one does, we just have to go through it one by one. Being grateful means being thankful for anything that happens. We might have to go through the tough process, which means that we will have to face unwanted struggles and everything, but it does not mean that it is the end. It just means that you are being pressured to be stronger as life is never going to get easier. You are forged by life to be able to handle more responsibilities in life. If we can get through the hard process, we will become someone better at handling issues in life.
All in all, doing something new can be scary and it can be too much if we do it at once. That is why it is important to relax and to take time to let everything sink in. Enjoy the new experiences in life, it may be hard at first but it is going to be worth it. Something good will come along the way, so just live it one by one with a grateful heart. Do not be afraid to try something new, life can get boring and safe if you only do the things you are familiar in the comfort zone. By getting out of the comfort zone, you experience grow, you experience challenges, that in the end will lead you to something better, a person you never know existed. So, brave yourself and remember, to remind yourself why is it important to start something new, if not now, when?
